Narrative Post Mortem

As the narrative director of the project, my task was to create an engaging story, finalize the lore used in the puzzles, and help develop the atmosphere we created.  I was also tasked with creating the idea and design the puzzles that the player would have to solve in order to get out of the basement. I was also helping in the game design role in finding some assets here and there.

I had 26 hours on my Kanban board. I attempted to work on things with the amount of time I had said I would. But I have had a hard time quantifying the amount of time I spent on it. Since a lot of my work was conceptualizing the lore and relaying it to the others on the team to get the atmosphere of the game, there wasn't a lot of physicality to the position.

A minor difficulty in the narrative process was getting everyone on the same page and with the same vision. Everyone has a different first impression of an idea. It takes a little bit to get everyone on path to make them all look coherent and feel seamless.

As the narrative director, I learned that there isn't a game without some sort of structure behind it. It is also hard to get others to grasp what the narrative is training to tell the player if the others don't have a visual to corroborate what the narrative is.

I'm very proud of the story that I was able to create with the small amount of game play we were able to create. There are many things I didn't add that I could have but it wouldn't make sense with the limited reach of the vertical slice.
